Entry Criteria and applications

Entry Requirements

There are two different entry requirements depending on whether you are joining us with previous flying experience. On Ab Initio/PPL entry types you will need a minimum of 80 UCAS Tariff points to join.

Ab Initio

If you have no previous flying or just a few lessons under your belt you can join us as an Ab Initio student. Your first 15 months will be spent gaining essential flying skills and the theory you'll need to be a commercial pilot.

To get started you will need

  • To be at least 17 by the time you start training.
  • Be eligible for a CAA Class 1 Medical Certificate
  • Be able to demonstrate the ability to use the English language (verbal and written) in accordance with Appendix 2 to Part-FCL if English is not your first language (IELTS 6.0)
  • Pass selection assessments
  • Provide Basic Disclosure (Criminal Record Check) before the Commercial Pilot Licence (Phase 2)

Private Pilot Licence holder

If you have a Private Pilot Licence you can progress to the next stage of training.

The requirements for this are the same as for the Ab Initio course on the left, plus:

  • Current UK CAA Private Pilot Licence*
  • Current UK CAA Class 1 medical

*If you have a licence from another country, and/or it has lapsed we should be able to get you converted and prequalified during the period of your training.

Entry on to the course may be subject to a pre-entry flight test.

Degree Year 2 direct entry

Already have your PPL and ATPL theory? The requirements are different for you as you will move directly on to the 2 year BSc (Hons) course.

You will need everything in the Ab Initio requirements to the left, plus:

  • Current UK CAA Private Pilot Licence
  • Current UK CAA Class 1 medical
  • All ATPL Theory exams passed
  • Provide Basic Disclosure (Criminal Record Check)

*We do some extra flight training with our Ab Initio Students which you may not have already. See our page for Ab Initio Students to find out if there's any extra training you will need. We will build a tailored programme around you to get you ready to start the Degree.

How to apply

First candidates will need to complete our initial application; this will go through the requirements above and make sure you will meet them before your course starts. You can find a link for this at the bottom of this page.

There is a small admin charge to cover the costs of your application. This is charged when you submit your initial application and is currently £55. If you are unsuccessful you will be provided with feedback on why you did not meet the standard required.

Candidates will then undertake two online assessments covering basic maths, physics, psychometric testing, and spatial awareness. Further testing and interview may be required by the request of our selection board.

On acceptance, we will require an enrolment fee to secure your place on the course.

If you require a visa for this course we will charge a fee to apply for and process your visa. This fee will not guarantee you will be eligible for a visa
